Mind Mapping as a Journal Writing Tool

I was first introduced to the idea of mind mapping while still in school. The concept isn’t new. Just in case you aren’t sure what I mean, read this excellent and informative article on mind mapping. Clustering is considered to be a similar technique to mind mapping.

Recently I’ve been working out & testing ideas in my journal. This technique is perfect for gathering ideas and brainstorming. In particular if you’re feeling a bit out of touch or overwhelmed with information. A mind map will visually display everything in one area. I find using a big piece of paper best. I later glue this into my journal, but will sometimes employ rough mind mapping sketches on ordinary journal pages to help pull my thoughts together more effectively.

Have you used this technique in your journal? Please share in the comments section below how successful you’ve been with mind mapping as a journal writing tool.

If you’re interested, I wrote this “article” on clustering a few days ago. I hope it will be of some help to people. I also wrote a bit on polarity and resonance in journaling. Check out my other articles :)
