I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw the headline at That’s Fit, but apparently it’s true! A 220-lb 12-year-old underwent liposuction and a tummy tuck, but when the 40 lbs she lost came back just a year later, she had an additional surgery to get a gastric lap band.
As Martha said in her post,
I think this is absolutely appalling. Obviously, quick fixes aren’t working (she gained almost all of the weight back after her first one, after all) so have her parents ever heard of teaching healthy habits? How about diet and exercise? There’s no reason why a healthy 13-year-old shouldn’t be able to lose weight the old fashioned way, Furthermore, why are her parents reinforcing the belief that she needs to be thin to be happy?
What is wrong with these people??? Apparently because this surgery isn’t allowed in the US for someone so young (gee, I wonder why), they went to Mexico to get it done. Are you kidding me? She’s 13 years old! Take her to a nutritionist and enroll her in dance classes or something. Don’t let her (or encourage her to) get major surgery because you’re too lazy to teach her healthy lifestyle habits! Arg, this makes me so mad.
