E-Cigarettes Not Safe Option

If you’ve been considering switching to the so-called electronic cigarettes to keep your smoking habit but lower your health risk, save your money. Electronic cigarettes, or e-cigarettes are no safer than the traditional tobacco ones, says the FDA.

According to the website E-Cigarettes Choice ,

While cigarettes emit about 4,000 identifiable chemicals as they are smoked and 69 are known to cause cancer, e-cigarettes contain less than 10 to 20 chemicals on average, depending on the brand or strength purchased.  No more tar blackening your lungs and no more carcinogens.

But the FDA says:

The FDA’s Division of Pharmaceutical Analysis analyzed the ingredients in a small sample of cartridges from two leading brands of electronic cigarettes. In one sample, the FDA’s analyses detected diethylene glycol, a chemical used in antifreeze that is toxic to humans, and in several other samples, the FDA analyses detected carcinogens, including nitrosamines. These tests indicate that these products contained detectable levels of known carcinogens and toxic chemicals to which users could potentially be exposed.

The FDA also reports that these cigarettes contain nicotine, which is addictive. The use of the electronic cigarettes may be easier as they aren’t actually a burning substance and this can add to the addictive traits.

What exactly is an e-cigarette?

They are battery-operated devices that generally contain cartridges filled with nicotine, flavor and other chemicals. The electronic cigarette turns nicotine and other chemicals into a vapor that is inhaled by the user.LIFE HEA-ECIGARETTE 2 SJ

False advertising?

The e-cigarette site claims that by using their e-cigarettes, you become a non-smoker:

With more and more people that quit smoking, more and more people hound those of us who do smoke to stop.  After purchasing the e-cigarette, you can finally tell your friends and family who have been badgering you for years that you have instantly become a non-smoker.  No more stinky clothes, hair, vehicles, or homes and you don’t have to worry about your family being exposed to the some 69 carcinogens that are in real cigarette smoke.  No more feeling guilty about exposing yourself and everyone you care about to a harmful habit.

If that’s the truth, what the heck are you doing with that thing? Either you’re smoking or your not. It’s like being a little bit pregnant – you are, or you aren’t.

Hey guys, think about it though, there is no second hand smoke, it does not stain your teeth, you can smoke it anywhere, and there is no pollution what so ever. There is also no real smoke, its only water vapor. I dono but I would take an e cig over a cancer stick any day.

Nicotine is addictive, but so is caffeine. No one wants a regular cigarette blown into their face but the e-cigs don’t have this issue. Of course it would still be rude to do but I do also believe the FDA is being sued over the testing they did by seizing shipments.
Last these aren’t being taxed like normal cigarettes. So anything to get that $$$ back is probably being done too.

Since this article was last summer, in light of everything recent, are your thoughts still the same? The e-cigarette is a great alternative because it allows smokers to have the “experience” of smoking a cigarette, but with less nicotine, no tar, and none of the smell and icky butts left over. Some people are using them to quit smoking but even if someone has no intention on quitting, it’s a much better alternative.

ALL THE COMMENTS MADE ARE FROM COMPANIES.. Your article is great but just like cigarette companies, we don’t know exactly all the chemicals put into their product. Sure you save money, but if you think for a second that you have quit smoking or look “cool” from these electronic cigs, you, comrade, are sadly mistaken. The comments I have read by Electronic Cigarettes, Green Smoke E-Cigarettes and DZ sound like their coming from either inexperienced people or experienced marketers for they are saying the same things as the companies I had called about this (no stains, “only water vapor”, experience of smoking…hahaha etc.)

Just like anything else, it is all in your mind, personally it did HELP me quit but it wasn’t the main factor just because it tastes like old Aunt Jemima’s corn syrup. It is way overpriced and I found, as well as my relatives and friends, that the best way to quit is cold turkey or the patch.

I don’t see this as a viable solution, just a sad substitute for nicotine addiction. It’s like saying that an e cigarette is only a little bad for you. There’s no such thing! It is still best to quit tobacco use altogether.

that’s a good question. I haven’t thought about it much since this post, I’ll have to rethink my ideas and see what I come up with.
