I received a rice cooker from Aroma Houswares. It was kind of a surprise when it was delivered (a nice surprise), since it was totally unexpected. It was also right before I left for vacation, so I really didn’t get a chance to take the rice cooker for a test run, until today.
Until I took a look at the recipe book that came with the rice cooker I thought it would only cook rice. I was pleasantly surprised when I checked out the recipes in the book. There are quite a few that sound delicious, and none with rice. I’m sure I’ll make my vegetable fried rice in there soon enough, but tonight I made Hungarian Goulash from the Aroma Recipe Booklet, the recipe is on the AromaÂ website.
I’ll definitely try this recipe again. I’ll probably use more cumin next time, and maybe add some chili powder, but I like things spicy.
Hungarian Goulash Recipe
Here are the ingredients:
- 1 lb chuck beef steak cut into small pieces
- 2 tbs extra virgin olive oil
- 1 small yellow onion peeled and chopped
- 14 oz can kernel corn, undrained
- 15 oz can tomatoes, diced, undrained
- 1 cup tomato juice
- 2 Tbs Worcestershire sauce
- 1/4 tsp ground black pepper
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- 2 cups medium egg noodles
Here’s the quick version of the instructions, check out the website above for all the details:
- Preheat the rice cooker for about 10 minutes on steam/ cook setting.
- Brown the beef first (on the steam cook setting), then remove that from the cooker. Use a long handled spatula, and watch out for the steam when you open the lid.
- Add the onion and celery and saute until tender. Then add all the other ingredients (including the beef), and set the timer to steam/cook for 25 minutes.
The buttons on the steamer confused me at first, but now I think I have the hang of it. I think I’m really going to like this rice cooker, it’s like my crock pot on steroids. I love cooking with the crock pot, but it takes all day. That’s not a good thing when I don’t decide what’s for supper until 5pm.
The booklet and the website have tons of recipes, including an omelet, a coconut flan, and spinach and artichoke spread. Yum! I’ll be back to share the results of more recipes I’m sure, and I’ll let you know when I get a chance to use it to cook rice!
