Bon Appétit! Julia Child and the Smithsonian

Did you know that Julia Child’s entire kitchen was moved to the Smithsonian Institute when she retired in 2001 to move from Cambridge MA back to her native California?  Neither did I!

I always loved Julia Child, her ebullient tongue-in-cheek humor, her devotion to her beloved husband Paul (who designed the kitchen for her in 1961), her surprising stint as a spy.  I remember the story of the time she set the switchboard on fire when she jokingly referred to her “self-cleaning floor” on a TV spot.

Because of the increase in attention on Julia due to the movie Julie & Julia, I imagine there will be an upsurge in visitors to this exhibition.  You can take a virtual tour of the kitchen if you won’t be able to visit anytime soon.  It includes all of her favorite cooking gadgets  ;-)

Me too, Tamilee! It’s been so long since I’ve visited DC, and I’m thinking that it’s about time for another journey :-)
