It’s amazing when you start to shop around for a specific item what variety you’ll find in list prices. I recently used Google Products to compare reviews and prices on a hand-held mixer, the Cuisinart HM-70 Power Advantage 7 Speed. I had read good things about it in Cook’s Illustrated, so I thought I’d broaden the search and see who all carried it.
When you look at a chart like the one in Google Products, you’ve got to be careful to compare apples to apples. For example, since the shipping price isn’t added in, it sometimes looks like you’ll get a much better deal with an online source over a store. Sometimes that’s true, but I was a little shocked by how high the price was some places, even accounting for shipping.
