Some celebrities are front and center in the movement to ditch meat. (Pamela Anderson’s PETA ads are tough to miss.) But we did a little digging to find out who else prefers vegetables, and were surprised to find that it’s not just Paul McCartney. In honor of Meatless Monday, here are some celebrities to inspire your day without meat:
Alec Baldwin – This one took us by surprise. Baldwin’s meat-free habits were apparently inspired by ex-wife, Kim Basinger. Though he’s left the marriage behind, he hasn’t returned to meat. He even told Glamour that when it comes to potential girlfriends: “If you’re going to Burger King four times a week, you might not make the cut.”
Tobey Maguire – Meatless since 1992, Maguire bans all leather from his house (guests must leave leather shoes, belts, gloves, and bags outside), and even removed his car’s leather interior, according to ecorazzi.com.
Carrie Underwood – She might be from farm country, but she’s not eating farm animals. The Oklahoma-raised singer wore a “V Is for Vegetarian” t-shirt on “American Idol” back in 2005, and was named “Sexiest Vegetarian Alive” by PETA that same year.
Russell Simmons – The founder of Def Jam records has been vegan since 1998, and told Mother Jones: “I don’t eat anything that runs away from me.”
Joan Jett – The Queen of Punk is certainly no weaker for her anti-carnivore diet. In an interview with goveg.com, she urged for better awareness and encouraged people to make their own decisions; but she’s been vegan since her touring days with the Blackhearts in the 1980s.
