Sometimes we get really annoyed with people who insist on smoking as soon as they step outside. Even if they’re our friends, we’d so much rather smell…well, pretty much anything other than cigarette smoke. And it turns out that their secondhand smoke is harming more than just our noses and lungs – it’s messing with our minds.
Researchers at University College, London have documented a 50% higher risk of psychological distress in non-smokers who had the highest level of nicotine residue in their blood compared to those with the lowest levels. So, if you don’t want to kick the habit for yourself, think about your poor friends. Hanging out with you is giving them high anxiety.
