Whether you’re devastated over Holland’s loss to Spain, or you couldn’t care less, we’ve got one more bit of soccer news before we take a much-needed vuvuzela break. PITCH: AFRICA is a cool idea to create a fun community gathering place, plus a smart way to clean drinking water.
The soccer field and stands are all water permeable, so that when it rains, water is collected in containers under the structure. The water can then either be purified to drink or be used to water crops. The system could potentially collect 1.8 million liters of water during the next rainy season in Africa, all while providing a meeting space for soccer games, concerts, or town hall meetings.
