Lots of nonprofits crusade for healthier school lunches, but we’re betting you haven’t heard of this one. Mission: Readiness, which is made up of retired military personnel, thinks that unhealthy school lunches are making today’s youth, “too fat to fight,” which in turn is creating a national security threat due to a gap in enrollment.
But what about the overall health of these kids? Anything to increase federal funding for more nutritious school food is good, but we wish Mission: Readiness would focus on the overarching health concerns related to America’s youth, and not just their potential for combat.
