Kevin Trudeau, known for infomercials peddling natural remedies and “get rich quick” schemes – and being fined to the tune of $37.6 million by the Federal Trade Commission for it – also turns out to be a really forward-thinking boss. The Smoking Gun revealed a copy of internal policy directives sent to his employees, which included some pretty interesting thoughts on Scientology, drinking organic juice, and clean desks. Check these choice company policy highlights, below:
Policy #20: Scientology and Dianetics
I highly encourage and recommend that you take some steps to better and advance yourself, and I do strongly recommend and endorse auditing or courses that are offered through an L. Ron Hubbard organization. Keep in mind, John Travolta, Tom Cruise, and many other celebrities and very wealthy people attribute their happiness and their success to these services.
It’s something for you to consider.
Policy #4: Fresh Organic Fruit and Vegetable Juice
This policy is: Fresh organic fruit and vegetable juice. I want to talk about juice and actually this is a policy.
[…] So, basically the policy is every office has to have a juice machine but the reason it’s there is because I want everybody to be drinking juice or at least consider drinking juice. I am not going to order you to drink juice but you should consider drinking juice.
Policy #16: Clean Desk Policy
When you are sitting at your desk, if you look from about 90-degrees to the left, all the way across to about 90-degrees on your right, there should be nothing in site that can distract your attention. There should not be any work or books in your line of vision to stare at. There should not be any files out. There can be a filing cabinet, but just a cabinet. Nothing should distract your attention at all. The only things that should be in that line of sight or graphs and statistics that you are kind of looking at or subconsciously looking at. That is the best physical set up of any office.
The reason is that you have to focus on one thing at a time if you are really going to be able to generate hard thinking and get things done in less time with less effort and less stress. When you have piles of stuff, such as an in basket and different file folders, Post-It notes and all these other things, and you are working on something, invariably you will look up while you are thinking. You may just kind of reach over and grab a file that is sitting there to your right. What that means is, subconsciously, your mind was working on that pile. It means a percentage of your focus was diverted to that pile and you were not putting 100% of your focus on the particular job at hand. That means you are not being as effective as you could be.
We all have the same energy. The only difference is being able to focus it. Example: A light bulb is not going to hurt us. If you stand underneath it for five days, nothing is going to happen to you. If you take that exact same light and add nothing to it; but simply focus all of the light into a single beam, you will create a laser. That laser will put a hole in this table, it is the same power, it is just focused. Our minds are the same way.
