If you’ve had Sun Chips in the last six months, you know that there’s something new going on with the bag. First of all, it’s entirely compostable. Secondly, it’s loud as hell.
The bag makes a ton of noise — 95 decibels to be exact. It’s made of polymers that have a high glass transition temperature, making it both biodegradable and noisy. But Boulder Canyon Natural Foods, another company that manufactures products in biodegradable bags, says that biodegradable doesn’t have to sound like this — their biodegradable bags sound just like normals ones.
So, do you think Frito Lay went with extremely loud bags on purpose to generate some buzz? As Fast Company points out, the company has used noise as a marketing technique before with Cheetos and Doritos. Or was it just an accident?
