The infamous McRib is back at McDonald’s, and it’s causing a boneless barbecue sensation. Though we’ve never had the dubious pleasure of actually eating a McRib, we know it’s a boneless patty of ground pork that’s somehow molded into the shape of a slab of ribs. To make it seem more natural, we guess.
McDonald’s lists the ingredients in the McRib patty as pork, water, salt, dextrose, BHA, BHT, propyl gallate, and citric acid. Those last four ingredients are preservatives, guaranteed to keep the fat nice and fresh. In the sauce, you’ll be lucky enough to find high-fructose corn syrup. Sounds great with pork.
According to McDonald’s, the McRib patty alone is 3.2 ounces. When we compared the nutrition facts to three ounces of actual pork ribs, we weren’t too surprised with what we found. The McRib has 48 more calories, nine more grams of fat, four more grams of saturated fat, and eight fewer grams of protein. So what does a less healthy, boneless version of ribs really look like?
