A New York City chef made headlines last year when he offered up cheese made from his wife’s breast milk. Now a London company is trying to get in on the, uh, “trend” with ice cream made from human breast milk.
The question of who the heck is lining up to eat this stuff isn’t that interesting—there’s always someone willing to turn themselves into a human trash compactor in the pursuit of outré cuisine. And sure enough, the first batch sold out. We’re more curious about the donors to this project.
“The company paid women who responded to an online ad to donate their breast milk,” writes the Associated Press. “The milk – which the company said was screened in line with blood donor requirements – is then pasteurized and churned together with vanilla pods and lemon zest. The dish comes in a martini glass and sells for 14 pounds ($22.50) each.”
What do you say? Would you give breast milk ice cream a try, or are you holding back dry heaves just thinking about it? Sound off in our poll:
