It’s Bike To Work Week, and we here at Blisstree are scrounging all the motivation we can find to get you back on your bikes after the long, hard winter. Every Spring, I kick the dust from the tires of my bike Bea Arthur (yes, I named my bike that. What of it?) to find some kind of rust, wear n’ tear, or just plain dirt. And getting ol’ Bea fixed up for the warm weather not only taxes my patience for maintenance tasks, as well as the environment. But lest you be deterred by petrolium-based lube: It turns out Toronto-based company Orontas has launched a line of sustainable bike products that are derived from 100% sustainable sources, and the biodegradable products are designed to protect from rust, and to eliminate noise and friction.
And, to top it off, the lubricant, cleaner and frease are “made with the wind.” (And no, I don’t mean flatulence — because that would be an offence to the ecosystem. Wocka wocka wocka.) They are manufactured just outside of Toronto at a Health Canada-inspected, food-grade facility that uses 100% wind power.
I think Bea Arthur would approve.
