Jack White and Karen Elson’s Divorce Party: Healthy Breakup Or Just Weird?

Jack White and Karen Elson‘s sixth anniversary is coming up, and they’re celebrating with a ho-down in Nashville. You know, like a celebrity couple would. Except that they’re also getting a divorce. And apparently, they’re mature enough to end things peacefully, in the company of friends. (But not without a healthy supply of alcohol.) On the one hand, I suppose we should all admire the singer and model/singer’s ability to let their hair down and celebrate their divorce; on the other hand, I’m not sure I’m ready to accept that divorce parties are part of a healthy breakup.

Here’s their joint statement on the matter:

We remain dear and trusted friends and co-parents to our wonderful children Scarlett and Henry Lee. We feel so fortunate for the time we have shared and the time we will continue to spend both separately and together watching our children grow. In honor of that time shared, we are throwing a divorce party, an evening together in Nashville to reaffirm our friendship and celebrate the past and future with close friends and family.

And the invitation to their shindig:

A divorce party sounds better than a divorce hearing, especially for the kids involved, but really, I’d like to know: How zen can you really be at the close of a failed marriage? Is this a healthy way to end things, or just a couple of celebrities in total denial?

Wow. I hope they do end up happy and healthy, but this is definitely the first I’ve heard of anything this extreme.

I can only think of the children. when you come from a broken family the only thing you can think is – no way would I ever do this – obviously one of the individuals or both thinks they are greater than their offspring – when you split you damage your kids, narcisissm to the hilt with these two. uggh why have children they will probably end of committing sideways one day – why gone down that road and have kids – shame on you and all you divorcees out there.
