There’s no shortage of advice stating that exercise and a healthy lifestyle can increase your energy, libido and communication skills — all things that are essential for a happy marriage. So does that mean finding a partner who likes Pilates as much as you do is important for the success of your relationship? Of course not. (Thankfully; otherwise I’d also be forced to pretend I like golf.) But regardless of whether you enjoy the same physical activities as your partner, finding someone who is passionate about health and fitness in some way certainly helps.
Case in point: Charlene Wittstock and Prince Albert. In two days, Wittstock will go from former tomboy and Olympic athlete to fairy tale princess — crown, gown and all. But despite her new role, it doesn’t appear that Monaco’s future First Lady has any intention of losing her rockin’ body.
While Wittstock isn’t lifting weights as much in prep for her wedding, even the most genetically-blessed princess can’t naturally have such a taught and toned physique at 38. So what does she do?
For starters, Wittstock is a vegetarian. And she continues to swim. In fact, she told the Times Live that she still trains with her coach, and even brought him to Monte Carlo with her. She also loves to hike and surf. (I love that — can you imagine, say, Queen Elizabeth ever setting foot on a surfboard?)
Prince Albert is no slouch either. Apparently he was quite the athlete during his college years, participating in cross-country, javelin throwing, handball, judo, swimming, tennis, rowing, sailing, skiing, squash and fencing. He’s also a five-time Olympic bobsledder. And he has been a member of the International Olympic Committee since 1985. On top of that, Wittstock says he stays active by partaking in triathlons, swimming (although it’s doubtful he can maintain the pace of his bride-to-be) and running.
The soon-to-be royal couple is also environmentally conscious, love working with children, and work to put an end to things like Rhino slaughtering. They will also be feeding their 500 guests this weekend with all locally grown food. With a $68 million wedding budget, that should make some Monaco farmers very happy.
Here’s wishing the happy couple a long and active life together!
