What would you do to burn a few hundred extra calories? According to a recent study, 76% of women are more inclined to have sex if they think it will help them lose weight. Not only do women see it as a cheap form of exercise, but nearly two-thirds of females who frequent the gym said they were happier having sex than a traditional workout.
It’s an interesting premise for sure. To be honest, I’ve never thought about sex as a way to shed pounds. But apparently, just 30 minutes can burn 150 to 250 calories, and up to 350 calories, depending on just how active you are, according to the author of The Ultimate Sex Diet, Kerry McCloskey. Even kissing for 50 minutes can burn 200 calories, according to the study.
Let’s be honest here. Unless you’re in the infatuating, can’t-get-enough-of-you dating stage, who really kisses for 50 minutes straight? And who are all of these women who are so desperate to burn calories that they equate sex to a workout?
It’s a point that goes back to what we’ve been talking about all week: body image. We say, forget about burning calories and getting your workout in under the sheets. Love your body–and your partner–for reasons that have nothing to do with vanity. Besides, how can you possibly enjoy those romantic chocolate-covered strawberries if you’re worried about having to work extra hard in bed to burn them off?
