Gerard Butler Credits Yoga For Helping Him Lose Weight

We know all about the spiritual, heart-opening benefits of yoga (and we love that), but let’s also be honest: Yoga is damn good at slimming our bodies and keeping them toned and looking amazing. And it seems we’re not the only ones who think so.

Hunky Gerard Butler is generating quite a buzz these days with his new svelte physique (not that he ever looked bulky before), even though the Scottish actor says he’s not as skinny as he appears in some photos.

The 41-year-old recently told E:

If I wear a long shirt, everyone says ‘Oh my god, he lost so much weight!’ But this is how I look. I just used to be a lot bigger. But now I’m surfing. I’m doing a surf movie so I have to slim down. I don’t know…maybe I’m sick or something!

And when asked how he lost the weight, he added:

I ate my last meal in October and I run about 40 miles a day. I’m joking. It’s just doing a lot of cardio and extremely watching what I eat. I stopped lifting big weights and I’m doing yoga. It’s not hard to be in shape…it’s hard to be in really good shape. I generally train for a role and give everything to that, and then you stop and then you do it again.

And, in case you’re thinking Butler is doing yoga now as part of some fad, he’s not. He’s talked about his fascination with yoga and meditation before, and even joked that a girl could win him over by giving him a yoga lesson. Do we have any takers, fellow yoginis? I, for one, would downward dog with him any day.
