Watch out, Hooters: There’s a new sexy diner in town, and it’s blowing your vegetarian menu options out of the water. Apparently, a vegan strip club exists, and it’s in Portland, Oregon, which mostly proves that Portlandia skits are more fact than fiction, but also that veganism isn’t just for highly moral yogis and prudes. (Or, something…)
“Casa Diablo” offers everything from topless bartenders to ‘best private friction dances,’ according to the club’s posters; they’ll even let you light up in their smoke and watch lounge. But they won’t let you eat meat or wear fur, feathers, silk, wool or leather on the stage. Because that would just be wrong. (And the owner, Johnny Diablo, claims that his dancers are all vegan or vegetarian too, in case you were concerned.)
But if you think serving vegan chilli cheese fries next to pleather-clad strippers sounds more like a joke than an ethical business plan, Diablo thinks you’re wrong: The naked women draw the men in, Diablo told the Guardian, which, in turn, means they will learn to love vegan food.
Of course, depending on how you feel about porn and smut, there are other moral questions raised by Diablo’s vegan dance lounge. As the Guardian‘s Julie Bindel puts it, if you’re “a man who cares about animals but thinks it is fine to treat women like one [then] Caso Diablo is the place for you.” But this isn’t the first time that nude women have been used to promote animal rights; just check out PETA’s campaigns in recent years, many of which featured ‘sexy’ vegans and strategically photographed nude actresses and models.
What do you say? Is topless tofurkey genius, or just plain wrong?
