Recent paparazzi photos of LeAnn Rimes shopping in L.A. spurred a Daily Mail article about how she’s looking too thin, because, you know: It’s important to stay on top of celebrities’ weight fluctuations. They say that despite looking healthy on the beach just a few days ago, Rimes is now “back to her skinny-self.” But despite their feigned concern for her well-being, there’s just nothing healthy about obsessively tracking someone else’s weight.
The Daily Mail reported:
She’s been looking a bit healthier in recent months after fears for her health over her dramatic weight loss.
But it looked as though LeAnn was back to her skinny-self yesterday.
The singer failed to hide her tiny frame in a long grey dress as she shopped at a farmer’s market in Calabasas, Los Angeles.
If “thin-shaming” is even possible, the Daily Mail knows how to do it…but only for certain celebrities. To the right of their meticulous documentation of LeAnn Rimes’ weight is a photo of equally-thin Kate Bosworth, paired with the headline “Ravishing in red! Kate Bosworth flaunts her super slim figure in a fitted scarlett dress for the premiere of her film Black Rock.” And nowhere in the article does the author surmise whether Kate is looking “healthy” or not.
Obsessing over Rimes’ body is a tired way of drumming up news, and the Daily Mail‘s incessant reporting on her weight fluctuations is enough to make you feel like you have an eating disorder yourself. But add to that the confusing double-standard they hold other actresses to, and you just have a big fat Daily Fail.
