Rachel Weisz was photographed on set in Manila recently, and naturally The Daily Mail took the opportunity to criticize her body. In their article, “Biceps to rival Madonna! Rachel Weisz reveals guns of steel on the set of The Bourne Legacy,” they suggest that the actress is going overboard with her workouts based on photographs of her in a tank top, then reveal her workouts, which are…not extreme at all. As always, we salute the Mail‘s ability to cut down a lady.
Here’s what they had to say about the 41-year-old actress’ bod:
No doubt her role in spy thriller Bourne has called for some physical training, but it seems Rachel might have taken her workouts a little too far.
Though not currently as extreme, her muscle definition looked like it might rival Madonna’s famously ripped limbs should she continue her current regime.
Her regime, apparently, is usually Harley Pasternak’s 5-Factor Diet and Fitness plan, which involves five 25-minute strengthening and toning workouts a week, and eating five small meals per day. The Mail surmises that, since she’s acting alongside Jeremy Renner (and because her arms just look sooooo buff), she must be doing more… But as usual, nothing has really been confirmed to bolster their criticism of her body.
This kind of body-bashing gossip isn’t new for the Daily Mail, but what really revs me up about it this time is that they’re actively criticizing someone for working out too much. Don’t get me wrong, there’s no kind of body bashing that’s actually good—calling someone too thin, or claiming their pregnant because they’re not thin enough, are bad things in their own right. But making women afraid of healthy behaviors like working out is particularly shameful.
