Paula Deen seems hazy on the link between lifestyle and diabetes, but New York Sports Club wants to set the record straight: They took out an ad that reads “paula, you made a fortune off of fat. call us if you want to be around to enjoy it.” Some consider this in poor taste; some of us find it kind of hilarious. Is NYSC taking the criticism of Paula Deen too far?
Personally, the ad makes me feel a little bit like when I watched Eddie Murphy‘s Delirious. I’m laughing, but I’m also squirming in my seat. I’ve been pretty frank about my disgust for Paula Deen’s opportunistic ventures into drug spokeswomanship, but at this point, the media is starting to exploit Paula Deen for more than just a chance to talk about health, diabetes and obesity. Now, photos of her eating hamburgers on a cruise are getting flashed around the internet, and companies like New York Sports Club are taking advantage of her folly to boost their business. It’s slightly shameful, but then…so is her decision to take advantage of her own folly to boost her business.
