Adele told Britain’s Radio 1 that she’s going vegetarian—and while she did say that it is part of her effort to be healthy, it’s not about weight loss (as some tabloids have been reporting—seriously, guys: there’s a difference between prioritizing health and obsessing over weight). In fact, she says the switch is mostly motivated by her dog.
The singer announced her switch, explaining that it’s part of her much-rumored efforts to be in good health for her career:
I’m trying to be veggie. For what I want to do next year I have to be really healthy and stuff like that.
She added that while she’s finding some of the meat-free options less appealing than others, she’s mostly motivated by how much she loves her dog (not by trying to move the numbers on a scale):
I can find another way of getting all the stuff out of meat you need. I hate that tofu stuff though. It’s rank. Whenever I’m about to eat meat I always see my little dog’s eyes.
While many agree that tofu and fake meats aren’t a great alternative to meat, there are plenty of ways to get the right combination of protein, fat, and carbohydrates without eating animal products (in fact, we just interviewed Eat-Clean Diet author Tosca Reno about how to keep your diet balanced and clean, without resorting to meat).
