If You Don’t Think Yoga Can Transform Your Body, Watch This Video

Say what you will about yoga and all the controversy brewing amongst downward doggers around the world, but no matter which side of the mat you are on, no one can honestly deny that yoga has the power to transform lives.

Case in point: Arthur Boorman. Arthur was a disabled veteran of the Gulf War for 15 years, and was told by his doctors that he would never be able to walk on his own.

After wanting to try yoga and being dismissed by other instructors, he read an article about Diamond Dallas Page (the former wrestler turned yogi who is known for his Yoga for Regular Guys which contains more testosterone than spirituality). Arthur decided to give this a try and sent an email to Dallas telling him his story.

Dallas was understandably moved and began teaching Arthur via phone and email. Throughout his journey, Arthur stumbled, fell, , tipped over and lost his balance more than once, but he always got back up to continue. He was on a quest to cure his body, and the results are nothing short of remarkable.

The lesson here is really two-fold: Never give up and never underestimate the power of yoga.

If you’re still on the fence about yoga, you totally need to watch this video (we especially love the part when he starts running):

    Just beautiful.

He could have gone a lot slower and prevented injury. I hated to see him fall into unprotected environment. And it really does seem impossible to achieve in 14 months. Authentic ? I think any number of teachers would have guided his practice, but I’ve only known two Yoga teachers myself, and neither of them would have supported working with no support. I am greatful he is strong and able now, and that he survived his practice without injury.

This brought tears to my eyes. SO inspiring. I am so happy that you reached your goals. Yoga wasn’t enough. It was your determination that really did it. I am a newly certified Yoga teacher and I am very grateful to have learned of your story. Has the capacity to inspire thousands of people. Thanks so much. God bless you. And, as someone else commented, now that your in good shape, please keep it safe :-) LOVE Aaron

Wow, wow, wow. For the first time in about 12 years I feel inspired. What you did is incredible! I’ve had pain nearly every day for 17 years. While the pain is not as severe or frequent as it used to be, the depression and despondency are still a big struggle despite all I do for it. I’ve gained 50 lbs and been resigned to it. But look at what you’ve done in spite of your pain! You are so much healthier and you look happier. Thank you, my new inspiration.

What kind of Yoga were you practicing to get these kinds of results? I have degenerative joint disease since my teens and am quite over weight and would love to gain this kind of strength and fitness. I just don’t know where to start.

This is the kind of determination that creates beauty from the inside out. By knowing who you are and not listening to the incredible amount of negativity and fear in the masses around you, you get to have your life back. I am crying I am so happy for you. What an inspiration. Absolutely incredible.

INCREDIBLE! I’m 45 years old and was diagnosed 5 months ago with bone degeneration in my hips. Up to that point, I’d been experiencing intermittent pain in those joints for at least 3 years. I’ve thought about yoga, but have never tried it. After seeing this video, I’m completely inspired to give it a go. A serious GO! Thank you so much for sharing your story with all of us. I now feel confident that I can make the changes necessary to eliminate the need for hip replacement. THAT makes me smile! : D
