We hate it when stars say it’s not possible to maintain a healthy weight or a physically active lifestyle while on a vegan diet (yes, I’m looking at you, Megan Fox). Just like going vegan doesn’t automatically mean you’ll lose a bunch of weight, neither is cutting meat and dairy antithetical to getting all the calories and energy you need; it all depends on what you eat, and how. So it makes me happy to hear that a macho, teen-heart-throb-style actor like Channing Tatum went vegan to get in shape for his upcoming stripper film.
Magic Mike is loosely based on Tatum’s own days a teenage stripper in Florida. For the role, Tatum says he did hours of daily working out and dance training, in addition to following a strict vegan diet. And did he lose weight?
“I gained weight, because I don’t like vegetables, so I basically had to wrap them in bread,” Channing, 32, said in the June/July 2012 issue of Out magazine.
Okay, so that’s not the best way to go about a vegan diet; you have to start somewhere. Good for Tatum for not buying the myth that ‘real men’ have to always eat meat.
At least if the whole Hollywood thing fails for him, Tatum could get a job at Portland’s vegan strip club …
