Burger King is launching “The Bacon Sundae” for their summer…and it’s covered in caramel, chocolate and bacon! Because, you know, ’tis the season known for its complete dearth of fresh produce, so why not make dessert out of meat instead of fresh berries and fruit?
“The Bacon Sundae” is officially getting added to Burger King’s roster of treats tomorrow (Thursday, June 14). Here’s the description per the press release:
The sweet and savory dessert features the rich and creamy vanilla BK® soft serve, drizzled with chocolate fudge, caramel and topped with bacon crumbles, complete with a thick-cut, hardwood smoked bacon garnish.
Crumbles AND garnish? And here I thought it was exciting that we could finally put fresh strawberries on everything now that they’re in season for summer. It’s not surprising that, nutritionally, this sundae is a calorie/fat/sugar-bomb. Or, as Gawker puts it:
The sundae has 510 calories, 18 grams of fat, 61 grams of sugar, and 100 grams of BEIN’ GROWN and DOIN’ WHAT I WANT.
The dessert is just one in a line of fast food menu items that are so junkariffic that they seem like press stunts—or the invention of five-year-olds. Because, while David Beckham has been busy shilling BK’s “healthy” menu items (like sugary smoothies and fried-chicken wraps), it seems that chains like Burger King are wont to lose their grip on the traditional, killing-you-slowly-with-cholesterol-and-sugar corner of the fast food market. YUM.
