On the heels of a new study that found people on this planet are 34 billion pounds overweight with Americans accounting for more than one-third of those pounds (despite the fact that we only account for 5% of the world’s population), Jimmy Kimmel has the hilarious answer as to why our nation is so fat.
Kimmel started out last night’s monologue by referencing the study from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, which concluded that the average weight of adults in this world is 137 pounds, while the average weight of Americans is 178 pounds.
They both seem low to me. How can the average body weight be 137 pounds anywhere? Are there whole countries filled with Victoria Beckhams?
But after poking fun at our nation’s waistlines, Kimmel diagnosed the real culprit of our problem: It’s all those damn cupcake shops.
Did you know that there are over 400 of these shops in the U.S. right now? Just begging us to come in and indulge. Why do they have to make them look and taste so freakin’ awesome anyway???
Of course this isn’t the real reason behind our expanding size (it’s all those large sodas, don’t you know?), but Kimmel is funny about the whole thing. Take a look:
