Ben & Jerry’s Greek Yogurt has been advertised all over the place lately, and every time I see it I can’t help but get angry. Like many other companies and brands, they’re glomming on to the Greek yogurt trend…by putting it in products that are the antithesis of why Greek yogurt has become so trendy.
In case the flavors (Raspberry Fudge Chunk, Peanut Butter Banana, Strawberry Shortcake Blueberry Graham) and Greek gro yo is NOT healthier than ice cream. If you eat dairy, Greek yogurt is a great treat–it’s high in protein, low in carbs, and contains very little natural sugar. But put it in a pint with sugary fruit mixes, peanut butter, shortcake, and cookies…and you’re no longer eating (or selling) a health food.
Plenty of other companies are taking a ride on the Greek yogurt train, selling products with less-than-stellar nutrition facts. Here are a few products that are more trendy than healthy…and probably best to avoid:
