Ice cream is good, right? It’s sweet, creamy and simple, a perfect treat for hot summer days. There’s nothing menacing about ice cream. Or at least that’s what I thought until I watched these new ads from Philly-based ice cream company Little Baby’s Ice Cream. Y’all, they are the weirdest, creepiest, most puzzling, most-nightmare-inducing ads I’ve seen…well, ever.
Am I right? Like, WTF is going on there? It’s a weird mummy-esque dude EATING ICE CREAM OFF OF HIS OWN HEAD complete with a scary voiceover. In NO WAY does that make me want to eat or buy ice cream at all (and this is coming from the girl who eats ice cream like five times a week during the summer). I don’t know which of the ads is more disturbing; just watching them makes me shiver. I’m definitely going to be haunted by those eyes.
And that’s probably what Little Baby’s Ice Cream is counting on. The shock value of the ads is sure to garner them some attention. Their website says:
“Little Baby’s recognizes Ice Cream as a universal catalyst for joyful diversion to rally a stoked local community.”
I don’t know if the rallying that these ads are doing is the kind of rally they want, but they’re doing something, that’s for sure (making everyone who sees their ads inwardly cringe!).
On a more positive note, the ice cream comes from local ingredients and is locally produced in Pennsylvania. The company apparently offers lots of unusual flavors, like Hawaiian Pizza and Earl Grey Sriracha, and they also have vegan options. So, ok, that’s actually cool. Good job, guys. I wish you luck with your crazy ice cream and your local mission, but less creepy ads next time, please!
