If you answered “D”, you are correct!
According to Face the Facts USA, Americans wasted 33.79 million tons of food in 2010–that’s enough to fill 91 Empire State Buildings.
Even in our struggling economy and more eco-friendly times, each one of us wastes 209-254 pounds of edible food each year–that’s a 16% increase from a decade ago.
Meanwhile, 46 million Americans rely on food stamps and over 17 million households in our country were considered “food insecure” in 2010, meaning it they struggled with providing enough food for everyone in the family.
The solution? Buy less food and make sure it’s only what you are going to consume before it goes bad. That’s a start, right?
Oh, and if you answered “B” or “C”, you’ll be interested in knowing that we waste the equivalent of 3,400 Golden Gate Bridges every year and enough food to fill an entire 90,000 seat football stadium to the brim every single day.
