Seems like everyone is quick to critique celebrity weight loss these days–and rightly so, some (like Jennie Garth and Miley Cyrus) are definitely concerning, but in the case of Jordin Sparks and her 50-pound weight loss, no one could possibly have anything but accolades–especially when you find out how she did it.
Sparks appeared on the Today show this morning to promote the debut of her new film, Sparkle, which sounds great, but frankly, we were more excited about her 50-pound weight loss and how she shed those pounds.
Sparks explained that it was simply a matter of the old standby–diet and exercise–that landed her on the cover of Shape magazine this month:
There’s no secret. I just really changed my mindset. I got really sick in the fall of 2010, right after Broadway, actually. And, I was just like, you know what? I’m not going to take my health for granted anymore. This changes right here right now.
She went on to explain that it was a matter of thinking more about her choices:
I was really evaluating what I was eating, when and why I was eating it. I love food and so I was just eating because it tasted good. I kind of re-evaluated that. Now I definitely listen to my body first.
Sparks also admitted that she upped her fitness routine, slowly though as she recovered from her illness:
I just took baby steps because I was so fatigued from what I was sick with. Just doing baby steps and getting more into physical activity and then eventually I found a trainer. And I’ve just been trying to keep it up. It’s a day by day thing. It’s been a year and a half and I feel good.
Good for you, Jordin. In a world of celebrity mayhem over weight loss, no one can possibly diss you for that.
