There’s nothing wrong with eating something sweet every now and then, but too much can lead to weight gain, diabetes, and even changes in brain chemistry. But, much like quitting smoking, cutting back on sugar can result in hard-to-shake cravings. Luckily, there are plenty of ways to escape the urge to hit that office candy dish.

What I love about this is that it doesn’t discourage snacking altogether–seriously, when you’re feeling nosh-y, no amount of around-the-block-walking or gum chewing or distraction will do–but instead, offers smart, nutritious alternatives, like fruit or lean protein. It’s also a more nutrient-based approach that the old adage that “if you feel hungry, you’re probably just thirsty.” Which is not helpful for those of us who habitually chug our eight-a-day before 5pm.
