After much public fascination with Jessica Simpson‘s weight–including those who snarked her for eating buttered Pop Tarts and even a doctor insinuating that she was out of control–the new mom is finally speaking out about her post-pregnancy diet and how she is shedding those pounds. We commend her for not falling into the Hollywood trap of trying to fit into her skinny jeans the day after giving birth. Take a look at her healthy new attitude that has new moms cheering.
In an interview with USA Today, Simpson admitted that she over-indulged while pregnant:
I let myself indulge in everything I wanted because it was the first time I was ever pregnant, and I wanted to enjoy it. I wanted to be happy and eat what I wanted.
And while it’s great to not stress out about your weight while pregnant, that’s a bit of a dangerous message to send: being happy equals eating whatever you want. We know that’s not true.
It’s also wrong to assume that all of those pounds don’t disappear when you give birth, but Simpson says she didn’t know that:
I didn’t realize it (the weight) didn’t all come off with the baby.
Now the 32 year-old says she is working hard to lose those pounds with Weight Watchers–although she won’t say how much she wants to lose. Which is good, because that’s no one’s business.
Simpson also says that she’s lost weight each week so far, but she definitely doesn’t believe in depriving herself–which is a positive message:
I’m a woman who wants her chocolate. I allot myself a fun-size (bag) M&Ms. I eat one of those, and my craving is satisfied. I don’t need the whole bag of M&Ms.
The other positive message from Simpson is her attitude about her weight and her body:
Nobody wants to talk about their weight. For me, I have had to come to a place where I am comfortable with myself. I’m a mom now, and get to be a role model for this beautiful little girl.
She goes on to say that she’s not stressing out about her body because being real and honest as a woman is more important:
I’m not a supermodel. My body is not bouncing back like a supermodel. I’m just your everyday woman who is trying to feel good and be healthy for her daughter, her fiancé and herself.
Too bad more celebrities don’t have the same attitude!
