Kate Upton has to have the world’s best philosophy on her body–or at least one that we wish more models would share. The sexy healthy-looking model opened up to Vogue this month about her positive outlook and how she doesn’t feel the need to starve herself to fit in with the industry standards. Hooray!
The 20-year-old Florida native started out by saying that she’s “excited to be in a place where I can be a good example.” And what a good example she is. Not only is Upton confident in her curvy body, she’s also not willing to sacrifice her health to be a stick-thin model like the industry would often prefer.
I don’t want to starve myself. I still want to hang out with my family and be a normal girl. You have to be confident, and that doesn’t mean starving yourself.
Upton went on to say that she enjoys being a healthy role model for young women these days and sees that as almost a mission:
I think it’s important to look at magazines and think a healthy lifestyle is attainable. Now that the fashion industry likes the idea of me, I’m happy if I can have an influence.
And as far as fitting into the modeling world with a curvy figure? It can be a challenge, she admits, but one that is well worth it because none of us, really, have the perfect body:
I’m sure every girl can relate. You go shopping and you’re not the same size in every brand—some look good on you and others don’t.
When I lived in Florida, the swimsuit was the key wardrobe piece. I lived ten minutes from the beach, but I never sat there and said, ‘I want to be every man’s fantasy.’ It wasn’t a big deal to be in a bathing suit. Now, whenever girls come up to me saying they’re happy to see I am confident about my body, it makes me feel good that I am contributing in a way among people my age, people who could be my friends.
Wow. What a delightful, refreshing view.
Imagine if every model felt that way. And imagine how that could positive impact young girls and women everywhere.
