The two biggest things I learned from Kelly Osbourne‘s interview with Cosmopolitan Body about her 70-pound weight loss are: 1) that there’s a magazine called Cosmopolitan Body in the UK, and 2) that Kelly Osbourne knows how to give a surprisingly inspiring interview about a healthy weight loss attitude and body image.
Kelly Osbourne’s Better Body Image (And Self-Confidence)
Kelly Osbourne’s weight loss has been in the news for awhile, along with her struggle with weight and body image issues. But according to the interview–and the photos that come along with it–she’s lost five stone (which is nearly 70 pounds). And while she’s not actually that into flaunting her body, she does seem to have gotten a healthy grip on her body image–which isn’t easy when you’re drastically changing your body (let alone in the spotlight):
“I’ll never be the kind of person who thinks, ‘I’m so hot.’ I don’t want to be. But I learnt to respect and love myself–something I didn’t think I would ever be capable of.”
“At the Emmys last year I had my first moment when I really felt good. I put on my dress and when I looked at myself in the mirror I cried.”
She went on to clarify that her weight loss alone isn’t what makes her happy–she’s also been going through therapy:
‘People think I lost weight and that’s what made me happier. That’s not true; I had to learn to love myself first.
‘Losing weight was just one benefit of putting the hard work in and sorting myself out on the inside first through therapy.’
Osbourne explaining that following therapy she finally learned to just be herself: ‘That was one of the scariest times of my life. I swear I’ve never felt more naked, because I had to actually be me and couldn’t mask it.’
How Kelly Osbourne Lost Weight
The magazine didn’t share exact details of how Kelly Osbourne lost weight, but she talked about the process, and was honest about the fact that even though she feels great, it isn’t an enjoyable process:
‘Working out is not fun, I’m not going to lie and say it is. I sweat my arse off and I’m miserable for the hour I’m doing it but when I’m done, I feel amazing.
‘There’s no quick fix and it does take a long time. It drives you mad when you see someone eating chips when you can’t have any, but it’s so worth it.’
She added: ‘If you want to change your body you can’t just diet; if you do that, you lose weight, then get fat. You’ve got to commit to a whole life change and teach yourself a whole new lifestyle.
‘It isn’t fun, but it never will be. I don’t deny myself anything – I still eat chocolate and cake and always will. Everything in moderation.’
We’re usually wary of bikini spreads and weight loss interviews, but Osbourne’s was refreshingly honest about what it really takes to be happy and lose weight when you’re also struggling with body image and self-esteem: Hard work, more hard work, and in a lot of cases, some kind of therapy.
