Lady Gaga To Offer Free Counseling Services For Fans On Born This Way Ball Tour

Lady Gaga Born This Way Tour

Present-day pop’s number one star Lady Gaga has been in the news throughout 2012 for her honesty regarding mental issues, eating disorders and body image. The tabloids have body snarked her and criticized her weight gain (which was actually not all that much, anyway, but that’s beside the fact), garnering her to respond in a public, positive manner, earning countless fans’ admiration, as well as our own. Now, it has just been announced that her Born This Way tour will be setting the stage (so to speak) for even more discussion regarding mental health by offering free counseling services to fans.

A pre-show experience called the Born Brave Bus will have DJ sets from Lady Starlight, food, games and therapists to help attendees work through their problems. According to her Facebook, Lady Gaga says:

BornBrave Bus Is a place where mental health + depression are taken seriously w/ no judgement, FREE real help available to all. I feel like most kids don’t look for help because they feel embarrassed so mom + I wanted to break the stigmas around “help” and make it fun.

While I don’t love everything Lady Gaga has said in the past, and perhaps some speculations regarding the validity of her dedication to mental health — as in, it may be a purposeful publicity gatherer of sorts — are on target, I genuinely believe that this is a pretty great idea. Sure, one session of therapy will likely not fix all of a person’s problems, but given the enormous stigma surrounding mental health issues, particularly among young people, I think that a huge celebrity being in public support of counseling is excellent.

Plus, if any of the people who talk to a counselor for a little while realize that they do, indeed, need further help and are then opened up to therapy ideas and resources, that’s absolutely wonderful. So, kudos, Lady Gaga, for helping to destigmatize mental healthcare!

The Born This Way Tour will start back up in Vancouver on January 11, so if you’re interested, start checking out tour dates ASAP.
