While there are no sure-fire ways to cure that nasty headache, nausea, fatigue and general yuckiness, there are a few things you can do to help your body recover from too much alcohol last night–namely, select yoga poses.
Take Parivrtta Ukatasana or Twisting Chair Pose, for example. Not only does this pose tone and tighten your thighs, hips and buttocks, but the twisting and wringing of the upper body creates something called apana vayu–an outward flow of energy that aids in detoxification and digestion. By twisting and putting a gentle pressure on your vital organs like the kidneys, liver and spleen, you can stimulate them to release toxins (like all those those cocktails last night). The twisting action also encourages fresh blood flow through these organs, pushing out waste and making room for fresh blood and nutrients.
For a more advanced version of this pose–and a more advanced rinse, try taking a bind here. By threading one hand in between your legs from the front and grabbing it with your other hand from behind, you can activate some more serious twisting and detoxing.
Similarly, other twisting poses in yoga can help detox your liver too, Parivrtta Anjaneyasana or Revolved Lunge is another twisting pose to stimulate your liver. The wringing action of this pose also puts pressure on your vital organs, encouraging them to release toxins and waste:

When you’re done literally wringing out your liver, be sure to drink a lot of water to help flush out the toxins that are floating around in your bloodstream. That, and maybe rethink all those cocktails next New Year’s Eve.
