Inspiring ‘Bucket List’ Teen, Alice Pyne, Dies From Cancer

IMG_2300The British teenager who inspired people around the world with her “bucket list,” Alice Pyne, passed away from terminal cancer–but not before completing every item on her bucket list, thanks to the help of many generous, compassionate people.

The 17-year-old had Hodgkin’s lymphoma for many years and was not expected to live this long, according to what doctors told her. But she defied the odds and became a worldwide viral sensation a few years ago when she created a blog talking about her illness and posted a bucket list of things she was determined to do before she died.

On her blog, Pyne explained her goal:

I’m 17 and I have terminal cancer. I’ve created a bucket list because there are so many things I still want to do in my life … some are possible, some will remain a dream. My blog is to document this precious time with my family and friends, doing the things I want to do. You only have one life … live it!

And just a few months ago, in August, thanks to the aid of generous supporters around the world, the inspiring teen completed her bucket list after going on a whale watching trip in Canada. Other must-do’s on her list (which she also completed) included:

To get everyone eligible to join a bone marrow register
To get EVERYONE to have a bucket list
To get to the Royal Garden party in May
To buy a static caravan for my charity
To actually receive my B.E.M. medal
To go to my school leavers prom
To meet Take That
To design a Emma Bridgewater Mug to sell for charity
To stay in the Chocolate room at Alton Towers
To swim with sharks
To go to Kenya (got to go to Kent-ya)!
To enter Mabel in a Labrador show
Photo shoot with Milly, Clarissa, Sammie and Megs
To have a private cinema party for me and my BFFs
To stay in a caravan
To have a purple Apple ipad
To have a nice picture taken with Mabel
To have my hair done
To have a back massage

Suffice to say, this teen lived life to the fullest and accomplished more during her 17 years than some people ever do. To her, it was all about making the most of the time she had. On her blog, she challenged all of us to do the same:

If today was your last day on this earth, how would you spend it?

Sadly enough, just a few days ago, it was her mom who added the final post:

Sad news. Our darling girl, Alice, gained her angel wings today. She passed away peacefully with Simon, Milly and myself by her side. We are devastated and know that our lives will never again be the same.
