“Women are their own worst beauty critics,” starts the pitch for Dove’s latest cause marketing campaign, Dove Real Beauty Sketches. “So, we decided to conduct a compelling social experiment that explores how women view their own beauty in contrast to what others see.”
For the “experiment,” sketch artists drew women based on the women’s own descriptions and then based on a description from another woman. The portraits based on others’ perceptions turned out much less flawed, less harsh and more conventionally attractive than those based on women’s self-descriptions. Check it out:

Our weight-loss columnist, Kendyl Wright, watched some of the Dove Real Beauty Sketches videos and found them very inspiring in terms of helping her with her own current body image issues. I’m usually pretty unimpressed by Dove’s body positivity efforts, but even I thought this one was pretty damn cool. What did you think?
