Oscar Meyer Recalls 100,000 Pounds Of Hot Dogs Because Their Packaging People Are Real Wieners

There’s been a big mix up at the wiener factory, resulting in major wiener recalls. Lucky for hot dog lovers, this recall is more about a packaging mishap than any food taint or poisoning scandal. Though it may not be the most dangerous recall involving hot dogs, watch out Oscar Mayer Wiener fans, particularly if you’re lactose intolerant! According to KFVS, Kraft Foods Group, Inc of Columbia, Mo is recalling nearly 100,000 pounds of Oscar Mayer Classic Wieners. The 96,000 pounds of wiener are subject to recall because they may contain Classic Cheese Dogs in the packages labeled for Classic Wieners. What a boner on behalf of Kraft Foods Group. How did this information come to light? There was no Oscar Mayer Weenie Whistle Blower; rather, an Oscar Mayer consumer notified Kraft on April 18, 2014 after noticing the labeling mistake. The next day, Kraft contacted the USDA who are pushing for the recall because the product labels are incorrect and “do not reflect the ingredients associated with the pasteurized cheese in the cheese.” Classic Cheese Dogs are formulated with milk, which is an allergen, Classic Wieners are not formulated with milk, so the allergen is not declared on their product label. Proper labeling is a big deal with food, even if you’re, like, not into labels in general. If you’re a concerned wiener eater, here are the products subjected to the labeling recall:

16 oz. packages –individual consumer packages– of “Classic Wieners Made with Turkey & Chicken, Pork Added” with “USE BY 16 Jun 2014” date and product code “044700000632” Cases of 16 oz. packages –distributed to retailers– of “Classic Cheese Dogs Made with Turkey & Chicken, Pork Added, and Pasteurized Cheese Product” with “USE BY 16 Jun 2014” date and case code “00447000005300”

Look out for products that bear the establishment number “Est. 537H” inside the USDA mark of inspection. Pranksters and consumers with questions regarding the recall should contact Kraft Consumer Relations at (855) 688-4386. H/T KFVS//Image via CC

It would be a weird surprise to find cheese inside a hot dog you were not expecting there to be cheese in…

ew. this is why I don’t eat hotdogs. haven’t since I was a kid.

Watching how they are made is pretty gross.

You don’t eat hotdogs because of a packaging / labeling mistake since you were a kid? Or because you are afraid you will find cheese in the Kraft mystery meat pulp stick?

not since I found out all the nasty/random things that are in hotdogs. i.e. pig snouts. but this is just one more example of why hot dogs are disgusting in my opinion

Since when is someone eating Hot Dogs concerned with what’s inside them? The EWW factor is greater with the crap thats in them, then finding some cheese! Cant really say you are concerned about your health if you are eating Hot Dogs to begin with!
