10 Salads With More Calories Than You Can Imagine

via Giphy

Sometimes you think you’re being healthy by ordering a salad, but you’re wrong. A surprising number of salads weigh in with more grams of fat and calories than a cheeseburger. It’s a crying shame. Just how many calories are lurking in your heaving bowls of leaves drenched in dressing? Let’s take a look at some of the most bad-for-you salads available at major chain restaurants.

Here they are, in order from least to most calories per salad:

  1. Cosi. At Cosi, you can get a Cobb Salad at the speed of light, but you’ll be eating 703 calories in a single salad.
  2. P.F. Chang’s. The Shanghai Waldorf Salad with Chicken has 730 calories. That will seem like a lot until you check out the rest of this list.
  3. Red Robin. Red Robin has milkshakes and burgers on the menu with so many calories that a Chicken alla Caprese Salad with 864 calories doesn’t even seem so bad.
  4. Friendly’s.When something has the word “crispy” in it, you know it’s going to have a lot of calories. For example, the Crispy Chicken Salad with Honey Mustard Dressing contains 1,020 calories.
  5. Chipotle. At Chipotle, you can create your own salad. I tried to make the most calorific one possible with white rice, guacamole, cheese, sour cream, corn salsa, pinto beans and carnitas and it ended up being 1,025 calories.
  6. TGI Fridays. The Pecan-Crusted Chicken Salad weighs in at 1,080 calories.
  7. Applebee’s. The Oriental Chicken Salad sounds sort of healthy, but it’s really a heaving 1,390 calories.
  8. IHOP.You don’t go to the International House of Pancakes to eat a salad. You might as well eat a pancake when the Chicken & Spinach Salad will set you back 1,430 calories.
  9. California Pizza Kitchen.Sharing a pizza with a meal companion won’t seem so bad if you know that the Moroccan-Spiced Chicken Salad has 1,500 calories. That’s about the same number of calories some grown women eat in a day.
  10. The Cheesecake Factory. Maybe you’ll just get a slice of cheesecake instead of a meal because the Caesar Salad with Chicken contains 1,500 calories.

this makes me so sad. a lot of Cosi salads are super high in calories and fat actually. at least places like the cheesecake factory have to report the nutrition info (at least in some places) or have the “500 calories” and under menu

I’m obsessed with the Cheesecake Factory and go there entirely too much so I try my very best to stick to the Skinnylicious menu. Does not happen nearly as often as it should.

The other thing would be to eat half the salad and take it home for later. Their portions are WAAAAAYYYYY over the standard, plus it stretches your meal budget. *art student problems

Sometimes I have restaurants give me a box right away. Salads is a little trickier but it’s perfect for the CCF portions of pasta, which are really like six meals in one.

Exactly! When I go to Sticky Lips I get one of the big twenty dollar meals and stretch it for about 5 meals by pairing it with other things. Portion control, it’s a wonderful thing, except when applied to caffeine.

Okay now I am totally Googling what Sticky Lips is. IT LOOKS AWESOME.

I’m amazed that the Caesar salad can have so many calories — it’s literally lettuce and dressing. That dressing must be seriously intense.

Most of it is probably the crap ton of dressing, the bacon bits, and blue cheese. Most restaurants use some sort of creamy dressing and that stuff kills in the excessive calories department. :(
