10 Alternative Uses For A Lemon That You Never Thought Of

When life gives you lemons, making lemonade is only the most obvious thing you can do with them. There are tons of different ways to use lemons besides squeezing the life out of them for your sugary drink, from household cleaning to facial cleansing. Check them out.

1. Cheese Grater/Cutting Board Cleaning

Shaving some parmesan over your shrimp linguini? After your done sprinkling lemon juice on your seafood delight, you can use the flesh of a lemon half to scrub the cheesy bits out of your grater. Plus you can sanitize your cutting board by using the lemon to scrub it down with some salt.

2. Whitening Clothes

For an eco-friendly and citrus-scented alternative to bleach, you can give your whites a a lightening by adding 1/4 – 1/2 cup of lemon juice to your wash.

3. Preserving Produce

Squeeze a little lemon on your avocados, pears, apples, and similar stuff to keep them from turning brown. The acid in the lemon juice effectively stops the oxidation process.

4. Deodorant?!

You may not want to try this one in public, but apparently rubbing lemons on your pits will keep them fresh by killing odor-ific bacteria.

5. Bug Repellent

You know those citronella candles that keep mosquitos at bay? Lemon balm contains a lot of citronellal, which does the same thing. Sprinkle lemon along your floors and crevices, or cheaply plant a lemon balm plant for an unlimited supply of natural bug killer.

6. Dandruff Removal

Oh good, another chance to rub lemons on your body! Rubbing these miracle workers onto your scalp can safely remove dandruff, or you can mix it with some warm coconut oil for a tropical scalp massage good enough to eat.

7. Unsticking Rice

I can personally vouch for this tip from my sushi rolling days. Add a teaspoon of lemon juice to your boiling pot of water to prevent your rice from clumping together.

8. Facial Cleanser

Dr. Oz has this simple recipe for a homemade, natural facial cleanser made with 1 tablespoon of yogurt, a teaspoon of lemon juice, and essential lemon oil. Just mix them up and use a cotton pad to refresh your face.

9. Hangover Help

Is this a miracle fruit or what? Lemons may help relieve your morning headache, since the citric acid can make your body’s pH level more alkaline. But enough with the fancy science, get that hangover under control with some lemon ginger tea, and add some honey if you like.

10. Lemon Ice Cubes

And finally, yes, you can use lemons for lemonade. But why not get creative and make some lemon juice ice cubes for some added zest to your summer drink?

      Cool. I also use squeezed out lemons to rub my fingers after I chop garlic or onions. Removes the stinky fingers smells
