You’ve probably had your share of Pumpkin Spice Lattes this far into the season (unless you’re poor, hate corporations, or simply enjoy drinking instant coffee alone at your cubicle). So it’s about time we changed things up, right?
Right. We were just thinking the same thing. And so was Starbucks, apparently, because the Mermaid-mascot-ed coffee conglomerate is gearing up to unveil the Chestnut Praline Latte, the chain’s newest, nation-wide addition to its seasonal menu.
The holiday drink will be the first new “handcrafted” Christmas drink launch in five years, and will be unveiled on November 14, according to HuffPost Taste. We’ll assume, as in the case of the PSL, that this is jut a weather forecast in disguise: Winter is coming early this year, but will be unseasonably warm.
The Chestnut Praline Latte—which features chestnut praline syrup and is topped with whipped cream and crushed spiced pralines—debuted in a few cities last year, but this is the first year it will go national. Joining other seasonal drinks like the Gingerbread Latte and Peppermint Mocha, it’s bound to taste just as good, if not better, and be a couple hundred calories.
I don’t know about you, but I’m sure there are some very, very excited people out there. While I have consumed just one Pumpkin Spice Latte this season (and yes, I got it with whipped cream, thank you) I know there are some big fans out there. The only questions I have are: ‘Will this be worth the hype?’ and ‘Is there anyway the Chestnut flavoring can make up for the PSL when it goes back into hibernation until next year?’
Only time will tell. Until then, enjoy fall, because winter officially begins November 14!
