This Woman Wearing A Colander On Her Head In Her Driver’s License Photo Will Push You To Fight For What You Believe In … Maybe

It’s a good thing, to stand up for what you believe in. But when fighting for your right to do whatever it is you want to do, maybe make it one that’s worthwhile — especially if it’s going to be proof on social media (which there will).

One woman from Massachusetts did not take any of the above advice to heart when she fought for, then won, the official right to wear a colander on her head in her driver’s license photo.

Typically, any kind of headwear is a big no-no for driver’s license photos, because, you know, police officers want to be able to recognize you and stuff. However, exceptions are made for religious headwear. But Lindsay Miller wanted to make a point and reveal some of the, well, more bizarre things people have done in the name of religion. So as part of her Pastafarian Atheist identity, she litigated for the right to wear a colander on her head. And won.

Miller says she’s delighted by the RMV’s decision to respect her religion, and her colander-wearing dreams. She said: “While I don’t think the government can involve itself in matters of religion, I do hope this decision encourages my fellow Pastafarian Atheists to come out and express themselves as I have.”

Express herself, she did. But prove a point? Eh, I’m not convinced.

On the bright side, maybe this will help us get retakes at the DMV a little easier. I mean, Miller may enjoy looking like a dunce in her driver’s license photo, but the majority of us don’t!
