As if eating yogurt every day wasn’t reminder enough that yeast infections happen, now a woman is making bread using the yeast from her own vagina.
Yes, as disturbing as this sounds, feminist blogger Zoe Stavri woke up one morning with a yeast infection. Instead of immediately going to the minute clinic or heading over to her local drug store to get over-the-counter meds, Stavri took matters into her own hands. With the help from a dildo, she extracted some of the yeast from her body, mixed it with flour and water, and made sourdough.
She wrote about her culinary masterpiece on her blog:
“It all started with a fatal combination of a slightly perverse sense of humour, a keenly scientific mind, and touch of the thrush.”
Some people aren’t too pleased, but Stavri stresses that consuming food made with vaginal yeast is pretty safe (though not 100 percent). No matter how safe she says it is, I don’t think I want to break myself a piece of it just yet.
While I applaud this woman for turning lemons into lemonade, I’m not sure if I’m ready yet to join the body yeast trend just yet. Others have done similar feats, with one guy brewing beer with the yeast from his beard (ew) and another woman who made yogurt from her vaginal yeast (she ate that with blueberries). I guess maybe I’m a prude.
Stavri has yet to actually bake the bread, but I hope she hasn’t cut carbs out of her diet so she can enjoy it thoroughly.
