10 Artistic Opportunities at the Beach

Even though we’ve not had much beach weather in New England this summer, with the chilly temperatures and rain, there are still occasions for exploring artistic opportunities.  A day at the ocean or lake can be much more than swimming.  Look around you and expand your imagination…be creative.

  1. Sketch pictures of the scenery and people
  2. Collect stones and shells.
  3. Later make collages with them.
  4. Create jewelry.  My aunt had a long, narrow shell with jewelry fastening glued to the top for a chain.
  5. Take photos and create a slide show on your computer.
  6. Find sea glass and learn about it.
  7. Write a journal about your beach experiences and explorations.
  8. Make a scrapbook with photos and collectibles.
  9. Create a shadow box with your beach “finds.”
  10. Find driftwood for art creations and textural inspirations.

What have you done that’s artistic while you’re at the beach or with the items and ideas you’ve collected?
