10 Best Spider Books

October is spider month and a perfect month for creepy, crawly spiders. Children of all ages are either scared or want to pick them up and play with them (okay, mostly boys).

A good spider book is always a must in every family’s library.

Charlotte’s Web The ultimate classic spider book. Charlotte, the talking spider, is majestic, honorable, and true. E.B. White tells the tale of friendship through the web of a spider, a pig, and a young girl.

The Spider and the Fly Mary Howitt’s poem comes to visionary life in a Victorian dollhouse. The artwork is precious. My son loves this book.

Anasi the Spider Anansi and his six spider sons set out on a dangerous journey. The story is a traditional Ashanti folktale from Ghana and was a Caldecott Honor book.

The master does it again with The Very Busy Spider (Board Book). The busy spider spins her web all day (because that is what she must do) and she rejoices with her dinner at night. Fabulous lesson for kids.

The Sammy Spider Series begins with the Sammy Spider’s First Hanukkah (Sammy Spider’s First Books). Preschoolers love the Sammy series, especially Jewish preschoolers, but the series is educational and fun.

Mighty Spiders! (Hello Reader Science Level 2) and Spider’s Lunch: All Aboard Science Reader Station Stop 1 (All Aboard Science Reader) are both great informational books for early readers.

Dream Weaver is one of the most colorful spider books available. With images of the night and webs, spider life jumps off the page.

bat.jpgStellaluna is one of the most charming spider/bat stories on the market. It is an award winning story with an endearing creature, Stellaluna.
