The hold ups do suck. We built semi-sustainable which was a whole other deal regarding permits. We were going to do straw bale to begin with but two massive stories (you can’t tell but the floors are extra high) we’d still be there. Next time I’m building way greener — I’ll just be in charge of the planning. It was cool to learn to build a house though. I just want to find the interior pics — it’s all open floor plan on the bottom level so it’s really cool.

I love the house and the post!

Incidentally, my brother built a small two bedroom house for his family and now that the kids are getting big they’re breaking ground on a bigger house and using the little one for a garage.

My sister’s husband built a big beautiful house on their land with a wraparound porch, it’s just gorgeous, he builds for a living.

I think for them the worst part of the process is all the holdups while waiting for inspections and permits.

It’s not for everyone, for sure. Great post.
