There is a lot of doom and gloom around the economy these days, so I thought it would be fun to find a little lighter take on it – why sewing is good for you and the economy!
- Buying fabric, patterns and notions support businesses and help keep them running.
- Those fabric stores employee people, who now have a job because of you.
- Sewing your own clothes can save you money.
- And if you’re saving money, you have more money to spend on things like groceries, mortgages or even just paying off a credit card.
- You can also teach your children to sew, which means that they are more self-sufficient.
- If you can sew, you can repair your own clothing, which is another great way to save money.
- Sewing can be a great stress-reliever – if you’re happier, your whole family will be happier
- Keep your money in your community – sewing means you don’t need to buy garments and accessories sewn in factories overseas.
- Sewing encourages creativity – it might lead to a new job or way of making money for you.
- Isn’t it fun to feel virtuous about being a fabric-aholic?

#6, the ability to repair things is huge! Ready made clothing is not always constructed real well, and it’s good to be able to repair a seam or reattach an embellishment
Chloe, this is about the most upbeat blog dealing the economy that I’ve read for at least a year!
Thank you for putting things into perspective.
We need to view things a whole different way now. I guess like our parents (or grandparents did) in the 30s and 40s.
I’m bookmarking this post to come back to when I need to remember that things aren’t THAT bad.
I always new my obsession with sewing was a good thing!

I’m so glad you’ve enjoyed my take on the current state of affairs
I love sewing as well, so I may as well have fun with it!
I am not very good at sewing clothing, but I love playing with my machine, using bits of fabric and making something out of them. I love creating and an uplifting attitude.
Cheers and blessings.
